Put Your Hands Up For Detroit (Talent): StereoTerra Edition

Three-day Edenville, MI music festival StereoTerra will rock the Michigan electronic, bluegrass, and music-loving collective August 16 through 19.

StereoTerra's lineup brings together talent spanning the United States, Canada and even Australia - LoBounce and Gold Motel from Chicago; The Spring Standards, Mieka Pauley and Bad Buka from New York; California-based EOTO and Michal Menart; and Toronto's Torro Torro - to name a few.

More than one third of the 57-act lineup, however, maintains Michigan - and mainly Metro Detroit - roots.

Below, Detroit Independent offers a primer on Detroit's performers, with a few Michigan-based artists sprinkled in.

Show the D some love!

The Muggs: Power-rock trio from Detroit, and no stranger to the stage, The Muggs released their first album in 2005.
Sounds like: Passionate, delicious blues rock

Freddy Todd: Freddy's a busy guy this summer. Leading up to StereoTerra, the guy will have played sets in California, Colorado, Idaho, New Mexico, and Australia.
Sounds like: Low-end bass, lasers, dubstep
Links: Website | Soundcloud | Facebook | Twitter

K@Dog: Born Grant Jackson, and heavy on the bass, a K@Dog mix is akin to viewing the world with those trippy raver glasses. This is a very good thing.
Sounds like: EDM, dubstep, low-end bass
Links: Facebook

Alec Scarlet: Self-described as "Creepy House," Alec Scarlet is one of Curated Music's go-to DJ's and puts on a great live show to boot.
Sounds like: EDM, effect-heavy, glitchy dubstep
Links: Soundcloud | Facebook | Twitter

ill.so.naj: Detroit-based producer Wes Harden describes his music as "a nostalgic look into the future of beat music."
Sounds like: spacey, textural, sample-heavy EDM beats
Links: Bandcamp | Soundcloud | Facebook | Twitter

OCT!V: Longtime producer Randy Roberts brings his production and rock & roll background to the EDM and low-end bass experience.
Sounds like: Guitarstep, low-end rock-driven dubstep, EDM
Links: Soundcloud | Facebook

Orange Marsupials: Orange Marsupial's recipe for danceable jams: blend groovy basslines with a rock-pop twist, add female vocalist and guitarist Lisa Vitale , and sprinkle funk and Motown influences to taste.
Sounds like: Powerful, female-fronted soul rock with a touch of funk
Links: Myspace | Soundcloud | Facebook

GRiZ: At 22, GRiZ (born Grant Kwiecinski) may be young but has already made quite the name for himself in the Detroit and Midwest EDM scene.
Sounds like: Glitch, EDM, synth-heavy beats. Self-described as "Soul, Funk, Glitchy Bass"
Links: Soundcloud | Facebook | Twitter

Ty Beat: True, Ty Beat (Tyler Bennett) may hail from Grand Rapids - but the guy plays so many shows in Detroit that if he's not already been given honorary citizenship he should be.
Sounds like: Your favorite rave
Links: Soundcloud | Facebook

MuzzY: When Detroit-based producer and DJ Dan Hacker isn't on stage, he's guitaring for GRiZ and playing in live jam band Tone Poets.
Sounds like: Ambient, jazzy EDM; hip-hop, "Soul-Hop"
Links: Soundcloud | Facebook | Twitter

The Boy Wonders: Two guys, based in Detroit, that play rock music and also happen to be superheroes.
Sounds like: Riff-filled garage rock
Links: Facebook | Bandcamp

Gameboi: The youngest of the bunch at 16, Ann Arbor-based Isaac Castor released his first mix tape two years ago, performed on the Vans Warped Tour, and managed to work "shit" into his Facebook profile - as well as a Hall & Oates name drop. Did we mention he's only 16?
Sounds like: rhythmic raps, hook-y beats
Links: Bandcamp | Facebook | Twitter

iNov8: Chase Frarey hails from East Lansing, and makes some pretty crunchy midi beats.
Sounds like: funky, space trance; EDM, bass
Links: Soundcloud | Facebook | Twitter

The Skinny: MI-based jam rock with enough wah-wah pedal for any Jerry Garcia fan.
Sounds like: Earthy jam-infused rock, with a bit of blues
Links: Myspace | Facebook

Jaws That Bite: Mike Sabatini wraps a lot of textures and sounds into each of his electronic tracks, providing the listener with a full-on auditory experience.
Sounds like: Interplanetary ambient grime, EDM, trippy space beats
Links: Bandcamp | Soundcloud | Facebook

IV Wolves: Detroit-based DJ, mixes combine rap and hip-hop with texture and spacey-techno house effects.
Sounds like: ghettotech EDM, bass house
Links: Bandcamp | Soundcloud | Twitter

Liquiphier: Marquette-based duo Chase Risak (Thin Rizzy) and Buck Summerlee (B Sum) call their sound "liquistep," which sounds about right.
Sounds like: Crunk-heavy EDM, Sizzurp
Links: Soundcloud | Facebook

Seven Birds One Stone: As the name suggests, Seven Birds One Stone consists of seven members, although we're not sure where the one stone comes from.
Sounds like: Fun, feel-good indie rock.
Links: Website | Facebook | Twitter

Shadow Attack: Ann Arbor-based Jeremy Judkins keeps busy - when he's not DJing and producing, he's running Deepblip Records.
Sounds like: bass-heavy, head-bobbing EDM; glitch hop
Links: Website | Bandcamp | Soundcloud | Facebook

FlashClash: Detroit-based, synth-heavy electronic duo, more than likely sent from outer space with the singular mission of making Earthlings dance.
Sounds like: Catchy, electronic dance-pop
